You know the deal – people are more likely to buy from people they know, like, and trust. And guess what? One of the best ways to nurture those leads and build top-notch relationships is by using content pillars to craft your blog content. Plus, it keeps your online vibe cohesive and totally on-brand.
So, what exactly are content pillars? Picture them as the core themes or topics that all your content revolves around. Think of them as your brand’s personality traits. I recommend picking 4-5 main pillars to be the backbone of your content. These pillars showcase your expertise, passion, and even your quirky side, helping you connect with your ideal audience.
How to Choose Your Content Pillars
First things first, identify the key themes most relevant to your brand or expertise. These should resonate with your target audience and align with your business goals.
Here’s a fun approach to picking your pillars:
1. Know What You Don’t Want: Start with what you don’t want. For instance, I don’t drink alcohol, so you won’t catch any champagne popping or glasses clinking in my branding.
2. Look at What Works: Check out which of your existing content already has traction. If it aligns with your brand and business goals, create more of it!
3. Create What You Love: This is my favorite tip! Make the content you want to create. Whether you’re just starting out or pivoting, this advice is gold.
For example, I believe that the health of your mind and body is crucial for business success. So, one of my pillars is Health & Wellness. I share tips on moving your body, staying hydrated, and maintaining a positive mindset. It’s just one of my five pillars, but it’s a biggie.
Using Content Pillars to Create a Blog
Once you’ve nailed down your content pillars, it’s time to create high-quality, value-packed content around each of them. Here are some tips to get you started:
1. Consistency is Key: Keep your blog content consistent by focusing on your content pillars. This keeps your messaging cohesive across all channels – social media, email, podcasts, you name it. A consistent message reinforces your brand identity and establishes you as an authority in your industry.
2. Mix It Up: Don’t stick to just one type of content. Play with different formats to keep your audience engaged. For instance, under my Health+Wellness pillar, I can write blog posts about productivity and mental health, record podcasts, create long-form social media posts, or even offer a “Morning Routine for the Successful Entrepreneur” guide. The possibilities are endless!
3. Plan Your Content Calendar: Use your content pillars to plan a content calendar. This ensures a steady stream of relevant, valuable content for your audience.
4. Analyze and Adapt: Regularly check how your content is performing within each pillar. Use that data to decide what to create next. Don’t be afraid to experiment with new styles or methods. The numbers will guide you.
Using content pillars streamlines your content creation, maintains your brand image, and consistently provides value to your audience. And remember, your pillars can evolve. If you find your content no longer aligns with your direction, give yourself permission to pivot.
Let your pillars be your roadmap, guiding your blog content creation and helping you build a strong, lasting online presence. Happy blogging!
